Grigory Skovoroda's philosophy of self-control

On November 22, on the eve of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hryhoriy Skovoroda, an open lecture was held with the Ukrainian philosopher Taras Lyuty.

Hryhoriy Skovoroda occupies a special place in the history of Ukraine, as he witnessed the Hetmanate's gradual loss of autonomy and its transformation into a province under the conditions of the expansion of the Russian Empire. Such processes left little chance for human development not only in the political, but also in the cultural sphere. Under such conditions, Skovoroda's intellectual mission was to create a philosophical project of personality formation, designed for those who are ready for autonomous existence. Skovoroda's idea of self-control grows out of the teaching of self-knowledge and self-discovery through congenial work. After all, every person is able to recognize the talents received from God, find himself in the world, self-realize and find happiness.
